Overview
JustinTime (JIT) is a web-based authoring tool allowing faculty to produce curricular resources for use on mobile devices, including:
- Curricular objectives
- Logging capabilities
- Clinical evaluation tools
JIT currently supports the Clerkship Directors of Internal Medicine (CDIM) Core Medicine Clerkship Curricular Guide; including:
- Core curriculum objectives with expanded explanations, organized around training problems (e.g. Abdominal pain, Diabetes, CHF, etc).
- A patient and procedure log allowing students to capture, verify and upload required clinical encounters in a seamless fashion.
- A clinical evaluation tool (eCEX) supporting focused, problem-specific performance assessment (e.g. an abdominal exam in a patient with abdominal pain) of trainees.
Sponsored by HRSA, we are also developing and testing a curriculum to teach and assess basic electronic health record (EHR) competencies to medical students reflecting Stage 1 Criteria for Meaningful Use published by HHS. Dr Ferenchick presented some of his work on the development of curriculum registries reflecting student performance on key EHR competencies at the 2009 Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine national meeting.
Also presented at this meeting was some preliminary data on developing an interface linking CDIM curricular objectives to problem specific forms embedded with a fully functional EHR playground (a fully functional system without live patient data) for students to document an initial H&P on a patient presenting with CHF.
